Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your child’s education as well as get to know the staff and other parents and carers.
Research shows that children benefit when their parents or carers are actively involved in their education and school life.
If you would like to volunteer for activities involving your child or family member, you usually will not need a Working With Children Check (WWCC).
Examples include:
- listening to children read in the classroom
- volunteering on sports days
- helping supervise excursions
- getting involved in fundraising activities
- participating in the school's P&C
- helping with canteen duty
What you need to do to volunteer in these activities
- Provide the school with your first name, surname and email address
- An invitation will be sent to your email to initiate a digital declaration
- Complete the declaration form online
- Once this is cleared by the Department and the school is notified, bring your photo ID to the school for final checks
- The screening is finalised and you can begin your engagement with Fort Street Public School
When you arrive at the school (allow time for this process prior to your expected arrival time)
- Come to the School Office and show a government-issued photo ID
- The School Office will confirm your identity on the DET system
- Sign in through the School Visitor Check-in QR code at the School Office
