Stories and highlights

There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.

Public Education Week Celebrations

Public Education Week is a time to celebrate and recognise everyone who contributes to the educational journey of our children and young people. This includes school staff, parents, carers, community leaders and P&C associations, all of whom play a vital role in our students’ education.

In line with this year’s theme, “Ignite the Potential", Fort Street Public School held a special School Show - "Postcards from Sydney". The event featured three performances:  two in the evening and one matinee. It was a wonderful celebration for our community, showcasing the talents and learning of our students.

Public Education Week is an opportunity for all of us to feel proud to belong and to share our pride in being part of NSW public education, celebrating the achievements of students and staff.

Movie Makers

One of Fort Street's value is Resilience.   Stage 3 students became filmmakers in Visual Arts, creating their very own stop-motion animations.  Each little movie made shows what Resilience is.  It is keeping on trying, even when things feel tricky, like learning to ride a bike without training wheels!

We are so thrilled that 2 of the short animation films - Gravity Takes Grit and Perseverance, were selected for inclusion in the 2025 Film by the City Festival. This festival celebrates short films created by public primary and high schools across Inner City and Greater Sydney. Our students walked the red carpet and watched their films on the big screen.

Take a look at the amazing short animation films created by our Stage 3 students!

"From the very beginning, under the steady, focused, and strategic leadership of Michele Peel-Yates, Fort Street Public School has exemplified distinction. Her principalship reflects the Department of Education's core values of excellence, equity, and integrity. Michele has ensured that every student is challenged and supported to reach their full potential both academically and personally. She is an exceptional leader whose vision and dedication have transformed Fort Street Public School into a thriving community of learners. The Department is truly fortunate to have Michele guiding one of its schools, as her leadership exemplifies the very best of public education."
