Walk Safely to School Day
Friday 22nd May 2026, our school proudly took part in Walk Safely to School Day, with an enthusiastic turnout from students, parents, and teachers.
A special thank you goes to our wonderful P&C for organising a delicious and nutritious breakfast for everyone to enjoy.
We were honoured to welcome some very exciting special guests, including the The Right Honourable Lord Mayor Clover Moore, her colleague, City of Sydney Councillor Adam Worling, Bicycle NSW Chief Executive Officer Peter McLean, local firefighters and police officers.
Following the walk up Observatory Hill, Ms Moore was warmly welcomed by Ms Peel-Yates and given a tour of the school. She visited our garden, new cubby houses, and volley/netball courts, and had the chance to see some classes in action. Ms Moore shared with the students that she was once a teacher and completed her practicum at Fort Street, creating a wonderful connection with our school community.
The Lord Mayor and her team expressed their admiration for our school, noting how fortunate we are to have such excellent facilities, a rich history, and stunning views in our unique Millers Point location.
Harmony Day
Harmony Day is a special event celebrated each year, recognising and embracing the cultural diversity within our community. The day promotes inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone, regardless of their cultural or linguistic background.
Students and staff participate in activities that highlight and celebrate the many cultures represented at our school. These may include shared meals, cultural performances, art projects, and discussions about the importance of mutual respect.
Harmony Day encourages us all to value diversity and reflect on how we can create an inclusive and welcoming environment. It is a meaningful occasion and a wonderful opportunity to strengthen connections and celebrate what makes our school community unique.
Easter Hat Parade
FSPS hosts an annual Easter Hat Parade, a tradition celebrating creativity and community. Each year, students are invited to design and make their own colourful Easter hats, which they proudly showcase during a parade. The event brings together students, families, and staff for a joyful morning of fun and imagination.
The Easter Hat Parade is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to connect, admire the unique creations, and enjoy the spirit of the season. Everyone is encouraged to get involved, whether by creating a hat or cheering on the parade participants.
We look forward to this special event every year and the smiles it brings to our school!
Book Week Parade
Book Week is a celebration of reading, imagination, and the joy of stories. During this special event, students, staff, and families come together to explore a world of books through activities, storytelling, and creative dress-ups inspired by beloved characters. Book Week encourages a love of literature, sparks creativity, and promotes the importance of literacy in a fun and engaging way. It’s a week filled with excitement, discovery, and a shared passion for reading.
Public Education Week
Fort Street Public School celebrated Public Education Week with a special show, "Postcards from Sydney," featuring three performances that showcased student talents and learning. This event reflected the theme “Ignite the Potential” and highlighted the important contributions of staff, parents, carers, community leaders, and P&C associations in supporting students. Public Education Week is a proud time to celebrate the achievements and community spirit of NSW public education.
