Crunch&Sip

We are a Crunch&Sip school!

Crunch&Sip is a set break during the school day for students to eat fresh fruit, vegetables and drink water.

Giving students the chance to re-fuel with fruit or vegetables helps to improve physical and mental performance and concentration in the classroom, as well as promoting long term health.

The objectives of Crunch&Sip are to:

  • Increase awareness of the importance of eating fruit and vegetables and drinking water.
  • Encourage parents to provide students with fruit or vegetables every day.

Why should children eat more fruit and vegetables?

  • Fruit and vegetables contain nutrients that are vital for good health.
  • Many nutrients found in fruit and vegetables are important for brain function which helps learning.
  • Research suggests that eating plenty of fruits and vegetables reduces changes of becoming overweight and obese.
  • Long term health – consuming recommended daily amounts of fruits and vegetables reduces the risks of developing heart disease, stroke and some cancers.
  • Choosing fresh fruit and vegetables over processed foods can reduce the incidence of dental decay.
